Advance Collection controller

Last updated . Sources are linked in the text.

Advance Collection separates the collection menus from each game's controls. Start with one connected controller, check its detected input in Steam, and test a playable room as well as the launcher menu. PS4 prompts use a published GBA-to-PlayStation terminology table.

This correspondence is published by Konami's controller terminology page. It explains labels, not a universal jump/attack assignment. A game's own configuration or a remapped controller can change the action; do not apply PS4 shapes to Switch or Xbox buttons.

Steam setup: test one input path at a time

  1. Close the game, connect the intended controller and disconnect spare physical or virtual controllers.
  2. In Steam Settings, open Controller and check that the intended device is detected and its buttons respond.
  3. Open Advance Collection's Library Properties, then Controller. Record the current override. Try Steam Input enabled for a device needing translation; if native input already works, avoid layering multiple remappers.
  4. Relaunch, select a game, and test movement plus jump and attack in a safe room. Passing the collection menu alone does not prove in-game input works.
  5. If the change did not help, close the game and restore the previous setting before trying a different connection or mapping.
Treat Steam Input changes as reversible diagnostic steps, not a guaranteed fix for every controller. Controller support in another Castlevania collection does not establish this collection's device behavior.

Menus work but gameplay does not

The first-hand Steam discussion includes conflicting results: some users improved input by changing USB/Bluetooth connection, while others did not. A later report found that another connected controller occupied player one; disconnecting the spare device helped that user but not everyone.
Start by removing extra controllers and remapping applications, then restart with the intended pad already connected. Test USB and Bluetooth separately when the device supports both. Do not install an obsolete driver package just because a forum reply suggests it.
The official collection roster contains Circle of the Moon, Harmony of Dissonance, Aria of Sorrow and the SNES game Dracula X. Dracula X is not a GBA game and does not establish the same action layout as the other three.

Questions

Why does a GBA A prompt mean Circle on PS4?

Konami publishes that correspondence for this collection: A means Circle, B means Cross, L means L1 and R means R1. Check each game's action configuration as well.

Will Bluetooth definitely fix the controller?

No. The cited thread contains both success and failure reports. First isolate the intended player-one device, then test connection and Steam Input settings one at a time.
