Update history

: Reviewed linked sources, availability and the scope of the answers below. Reported findings are distinguished from publisher specifications and editorial recommendations.

Names on the record

The official character page's Bosses section lists The Fallen, Joan of Arc, Medusa, Isaac, Carmilla and Death, followed by "And more". Six is the number named on that page, not the total boss count or a full encounter order.
Konami calls The Fallen Rose's first threat in the sewers. Isaac is a devil forgemaster with history involving Trevor 20 years earlier. The official Steam description explains that defeated bosses are sealed in Rose's tarot cards as Arcana, granting spells and special actions.
Official identities are summarized below. The preparation advice is a cautious recommendation based on those identities and the whip / equipment / Arcana systems, not a claimed elemental weakness. Where a published player strategy is available, it is labeled separately.

The Fallen and Joan of Arc

The Fallen: Konami calls this the first sewer threat. Preparation: learn movement and your current weapon before entering. RPS advises breaking the thrown cross, attacking from behind and avoiding the arena centre during overhead swings.
Joan of Arc: Konami identifies the French heroine of the Hundred Years' War. Preparation: practise repositioning with the whip. RPS recommends attacking from behind while watching for her reverse strike, and standing between falling flame columns.

Medusa and Isaac

Medusa: Konami describes a serpent-bodied monster with a petrifying gaze. Preparation: identify cover before committing to attacks. In its published fight guide, RPS uses fallen boulders against the gaze and recommends Holy Cross rather than ground-bound Infernal Pyre.
Isaac: Konami calls him a demon-creating devil forgemaster with a history involving Trevor. Preparation: conserve recovery resources en route. RPS's Main Hall strategy emphasizes moving around his thrown spear and using Holy Light if you can time the parry. This describes the early encounter, not every Isaac fight.

Carmilla and Death

Carmilla: Konami places this vampire in Dracula's Castle. Preparation: watch defensive effects before spending mana. RPS advises breaking her orbiting skull protection and prioritizing blood-attack avoidance; this page does not reproduce untested hit counters.
Death: Konami describes Dracula's scythe-wielding ally. Preparation: treat encounters separately rather than assuming one strategy. RPS reports the early Catacombs encounter as an expected loss; that is not advice for the later fight. Consult its linked boss guide and recorded progression routes for context.

Counts and later encounters

Published counts differ: RPS labels 17 encounters, while Game Rant counts 13 distinct bosses or 16 including repeats. Do not treat either as a verified official total. IGN publishes a Dracula normal-ending fight recording; its ending sequence is on the endings page. These are documented player routes, not publisher-certified encounter lists.

Is The Fallen an early boss?

The publisher material calls The Fallen a sewer encounter and an early fight. I have not timed how early.
